Countless times I have walked out of the house closing the door behind me to return later usually when I need to eat drink or have a constitutional moment to find the door locked with the dogs just staring at me wagging their butts and nubby tails wagging as I scream, "open the door dad needs to take a shit!".

So, I have a key hidden on the front porch, one in a tree not far from the house and one window permanently unlocked to crawl through once the screen has been pushed up. I have had that emergency entry through the window twice while dressed up as Willa too.

Just asking an honest question about home emergencies.

I don't think any houses here have that sort of lock on the front door, they are all deadlocks so you have to lock them with the key. I think that is the case for most front door locks installed in the UK in the last thirty years of more as well.

I do remember it being a problem when I was growing up though when everyone had what we called Yale locks regardless of whether they were actually made by Yale.

@ninalanyon With all those criminals in the UK that did not get sent to the US, Cannada, and Australia I totally understand the mandatory dead bolt law of the UK.

@WillaKissing I'm pretty sure that there are still some old style 'Yale' locks left in the UK. The thing that I don't like about a lot of front door locks in the UK is that they cannot be unlocked from the inside without a key. So if you have some kind of emergency in the house, such as a fire, you have to find the key before you can escape. The justification of course is that because UK front doors have a letter box flap then a burglar could use some kind of tool to reach in and turn the handle to open the door from the inside and avoid having to break a window.

@ninalanyon You dang Brits have had centuries to burglar proof a door. LOL

I get it just got to be funny at your expense.

@WillaKissing That's ok, I don't live there any more! I emigrated before the country went totally bonkers.
