Why are couch pillows always so uncomfortable?

Thick cushioning, rough material, not ideal for resting on in the slightest! I get that they’re supposed to be decorative, but at the same time, I don’t get it. Pillows are supposed made for comfort, so having some that aren’t and are supposed to be purely decorative doesn’t make any sense to me. It’s like making a decorative mattress.
