No bath or shower on the half. Sink, and toilet yes.

They are quite common here. And often used for guests. Also usually on the main level, in two more story homes, where guests are likely to be.

There are some exceptions, however. Say like if a study/library room is on the second floor. My middle sister's place had such a library room with an adjoining half bathroom.

Weird place though. Full bathroom only accessable by the two bedrooms upstairs. Sandwiched between the two bedrooms.

You had to go into one of the bedrooms to even get into that bathroom. 😈

Why my eldest niece made the basement her bedroom. Didn't like her sister that much.

The basement had only a shower. No toilet or sink. 🤣

Technically it was a three bathroom place. Because of the split situation, half bath on the second floor, shower in the basement, making a full bathroom.

Master bedroom had it's own full bathroom and foyer/dressing room.

In the UK the "half" would the downstairs "cloakroom", usually near the front door, consisting of a WC and washbasin, ideal for visitors
The bathrooms upstairs are for those resident in the house, visitors do not need to go near the private bedrooms and bathrooms.

Isn't it the other way about, just a WC and a hand basin, no bath or shower?

Toilet without a seat, wash basin with cold water only, no soap.

1/2 bathrooms are designed for those who don't usually bathe.
