I received a portentous email from my real estate agent yesterday

- We have a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 1 car bay, ground floor property coming available at 64 Spencer Ave around 23/24 December at $400.00 per week.

Why is this portentous you ask?
The unit is owned by the gentleman who owns the one I am renting. (He built and owns 124 similar units)
The one for rent is in a block of units about 100 metres down the road.
The unit is exactly the same as mine.
I am currently paying $350 a week. The rent will go up in May, and this offering shows that my rent might rise to $400 a week.
There is the possibility the empty unit might have been refurbished, hence the higher price.
I have been in this unit for 11 years and only the hot water unit has replaced.

I am familiar with how rentals are behaving in Oz right now, as you are. I get the feeling you arent planning to move..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Not going to move in the near future. The average rental for a 1 bed unit is $630 a week.

@Gusman Hopefully your landlord values a long term tenant..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman My rent will go up. Whether it be $50 I can only hope not.
$50 extra is $2600 a year on top of the $18,200 I am paying now.
@Gusman That is expensive, we converted our double garage into a relatives accommodation, no kitchen but the young girl just makes space for herself, everything included, water, electricity and internet at $270.00 per week - she rarely goes out has everything delivered - any mail we leave in the large pot plant and knock on the security screen - the same with any parcels if rainy they leave at our front under the awning - excellent person

@OriginalNedKelly I am starting to give consideration to my position. I live downstairs now. Leaving three bedrooms two bathrooms and an open area unused. No one in the family can use it.. So maybe rent some of it. I did look at the possibility of providing some kind of shelter housing for mothers and children avoiding violence. The the regulations and hoops you have to jump through its just too hard..
I might look at renting a room or two in the new year..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman Yes, the young girl does have a disability, and her grandparents live about 15 mins way - I took a chance and advertised on Facebook, the previous girl was a single mother and it was my son in law told her - just be careful as we still have keys but never enter at all
