Best way to deal with HOAs?

My HOA is awesome we only have a $200 a year amount and it goes to replace the fences and pay for the lawn care in public areas. And considering the fact that the fence that it replaces is is 160 ft along my property and only covers approximately 200 ft of other people's property I benefit quite well.

HOAs are technically illegal because too many of their rules and regs directly contradict local and county ordinances, and often state laws, when a corrupt board gets in, they're often extortionists that close off meetings and hide the books and contracts.
