I don’t know how they afford to cool and heat a house that size, much less pay the property taxes and insurance payments.

@cherokeepatti if you can't afford to maintain it you probably wouldn't qualify for a mortgage on the house

@saragoodtimes the price of energy is going way up. Some people qualify for the mortgage but then have the home decorated, buy new furniture & window treatments, have it custom landscaped etc. and do it on credit. There is wealthy area in my city & I knew a lady who had cleaned several of those mansions. The owners will have garage sales and sell their nearly worn out stuff (including clothes) for quite a bit of money and she said it was to buy groceries. They try so hard to keep up with the Jones that it cuts their budget to the bare bones.

@cherokeepatti have a friend who's husband is a doctor also. she changes decor in their house like some people change underwear. have seen them take out carpeting that most would die to have reinstalled in their homes
