something to share, new years eve traditions

something my family adopted, After spending a new year eve party with folks from South America and doing this we thought it was a great idea.

South American Tradition of Burning the Old Man
The tradition of burning the old man, also known as "Año Viejo" or "El Viejo," is a South American New Year's Eve ritual that symbolizes the end of the old year and the beginning of a new one. This practice is deeply rooted in the cultural and spiritual beliefs of the region, where fire is often associated with purification and renewal.
In Yucatán, Mexico, the burning of the old man involves creating a doll that symbolizes the year ending, often made from old clothes and sometimes with fireworks inside. This doll is lit at midnight to leave behind the bad and negative experiences of the year, welcoming a new cycle of hope and renewal. The tradition is accompanied by family dinners, music, and good wishes for the new year.
In Ecuador, the Año Viejo tradition involves creating life-sized dolls, or "años viejos," made of clothes and paper, which are then ritually burned to ashes. These effigies can represent past mistakes, disliked celebrities, or political figures, and the burning signifies their eradication to ensure they don’t return in the new year. The tradition is also superstitious, attempting to produce good luck and a "clean slate."
Both traditions share a common goal of cleansing the past and embracing the new, with the use of fire as a powerful symbol of transformation and renewal.

In England we open the back door at midnight on 31st December to let the old year out, then go to the front door and open it to let the new year in.
Usually, there's a barrage of fireworks lighting up the sky as we let the new year in. It's as if the young new year is excited to be here. It's a moment full of hope.
@Richard65 Thanks for sharing Richard

This sounds pretty amazing. I found some on YouTube.

Now lets get one thing straight. I`m an old man, but I`m no effigy.
@Degbeme no worries, you'd be invited for the food, drinks ETC
