Have you ever noticed this?

It might not be in every area, but in and around where I live, in December, there's a time when people start putting up lights on their houses, on bushes and trees in the yard. Some houses don't put up any lights, but instead leave their porch lights and flood lights on..... all night.

The reason why I notice this is because I drive through a specific area twice a month. I always seem to pick up on super, super fine details. Like if it gets super bright out for example. So I'm trying to figure out why you wouldn't put up Christmas lights, but instead leave on the bright porch light and flood light? I guess it's easier to do it that way if I think about it.

Now what's funny is, I'm also paying attention to "what happens after Christmas?" So today is the day after Christmas. On my drive out into town, all these lights that are on for most of December, are strangely not lit anymore. It tells me that the houses that have the porch lights and flood lights on, rather do it that way than put up Christmas lights.

Not saying there is anything wrong with it, it's just very noticeable to me. I suppose it also comes from my dad. He will bicker non-stop about if you left a light on in a room, it's like the world is ending because a light was left on and no one is in it.

Do you notice anything like this where you live?

I'm just saying it seems like more outside lights are left on through the month of December (my thought is because of Christmas/not wanting to put up actual Christmas lights)

The lights are usually kept on to welcome the baby Jesus. WhenHe arrives, the lights are supposed to go out. However, people keep their tree and decorations up in traditional homes until January 6th, to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas!

@4meAndyou Ohhhhhh!! I didn't even know that!! Thank you for the information!!
Probably to welcome Santa or Carol singers, the elves. I’m not sure. Might be the decorations from inside the house, making the house outsider brighter. It’s a theory which I believe is true. People have a lot of visitors this time of year and some leave them on on purpose.

@Gingerbreadspice That makes sense. I didn't think about a lot of that actually. And yeah I was chalking it up to things like, "well they forgot" or "they went out and left the lights on" but yeah I agree with what you say on it. Thanks :)

It's so that the reindeer can see Grandma.
