How much would you say is an appropriate amount to spend on Christmas

Please don't answer for anyone else than the honest truth.

I feel like every year I go completely broke buying my kids Christmas and then my parents act like I don't do enough and then my son's family is telling me I over did it and they never got that many gifts on Christmas

Based on the reactions you mention, you nailed it! You spend what you can, do your best and let the chips fall where they lay. I did see a news story about a kid that shot his sister due to an argument over who got more stuff for Christmas... So again, you probably did okay if you avoided this particular outcome!

How did you feel about Christmas this year?

For comparison, I spent about $300 on my wife this year. I felt like it wasn't enough and she thought I over did it.
