I wish I could.. My wife has memory issues and forgets things.. So now most days she asks me what we are doing for christmas. (we are headed to my daughters) and I have recently taken to telling her its here and she agreed to do it all.. It takes a few seconds for her to twig, but she is aware of her problem and have a laugh together about it after she beats me up..😷

@Queendragonfly Basically all the cooking. And our family insists on Mains including Pork, Chicken and Turkey hot and seafod and ham cold, with all the trimming. So its a marathon. We used to do it before the grandkids arrived. But they nailed it down at my Daughters house, with all the toys and presents. Last year was an exception, with renovations in my daughters house, so everything was prepped and shipped in. But the sheer volume of activity was enough to send my wife into a total meltdown. We had a system and she kept walking into the middle of it. But back to normal this year.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Oh dear god. I can relate. Why are wives/mothers/women so eager to over-do themselves til a mental breakdown?? To please who? Aren't we all adults? Say no. If the daughter wants xyz food, she are responsible to get it. Unfortunately my mother in law is this way too. She has just put up 6 curtains and was already so moody.. No one in the family expects or care about a big huge Christmas celebration. But she still insist on doing it and insist on having a mental breakdown. Why??

@Queendragonfly OK. I preface this by saying it is only my opinion by close observation and I am only a man, so you will have to make allowances for me.
Times are changing. When I got married, nearly fifty years ago, it was at the tail end of one set of cultural expectations, withy woman starting to pick up careers, but as nurses and secreatries and such, but still being the primary "domestics" in all the traditional ways. Boy has that changed (for the better) But letting go of the Martha Stewart role models is a slow drawn out process. Even my daughter (Who works a full week professionally) does more of the cleaning and cooking than her husband (who also works professionally) In my case, as much as we "shared" duties, my wife took several years off with the kids until they were settled in school and then shifted careers. But ts only now that she just cant cope that I have learned to really cook. (Not that I get what the fuss was all about. Its simple enough.) The laundry and vacuuming I have managed for some time. But I admit I an way behind on the dusting...😷
