For those who hate holidays?

Why do you hate holidays such as Christmas, valentines, etc.? Just curious because my ex bf (whom claiming he wants to work things out with me) says that he hates holidays and birthdays and doesn't like celebrating them because it is a social standard that society has set up. That people who celebrate them are basically "basic" and they make a big deal out of a day which should be like any other day.

He doesn't want to be pressured to get me anything for Christmas, valentines, birthday, etc. That it makes him unhappy to feel like he has to give me anything at all... even when we were in a relationship (2years), he has never ever given me anything. Not even some flower from the side of the road. Am I being inconsiderate of his believe?

Idk if you've ever dated someone manipulative? Well, it's really hard to break it off with someone who will find every reason to make themselves the victim and guilt trip you.
