I Love Christmas

MERRY XMAS!

Many people take exception to the above writing of “Merry Christmas.” They complain that “You're X-ing out Christ!” and “Keep Christ in Christmas!”
Well, we are keeping Christ in Christmas, and here's how.
The Greek word for Christ is χριστός, which is pronounced “Khristos.” That “X” that you see at the beginning of the word is the Greek letter Chi, pronounced “Khai.” It is a symbol for Christ. You might say it is a sort of Greek shorthand.
So when you see a display of MERRY XMAS they are not “X-ing out” Christ, or obliterating Him in any way.
Of course religious organizations or churches would not use this shorthand, but spell out the entire word—MERRY CHRISTMAS!
