Jingle Bells was not written for Christmas

I just discovered that it was written as a song for Thanksgiving:

Yes, "Jingle Bells" was originally written as a Thanksgiving song:
Author: James Lord Pierpont composed the song in 1850 for his father's Sunday school class
Original title: The song was originally titled "One Horse Open Sleigh"
Inspiration: The song was inspired by the popular New England sleigh races of the 1800s
Performance: Pierpont performed the song at a Thanksgiving concert
Publication: The song was officially published in 1857
Association with Christmas: The song became associated with Christmas decades later when children performed it at Christmastime
The song's origins are disputed, with some claiming it was written in Medford, Massachusetts and others claiming it was written in Savannah, Georgia:
Medford, Massachusetts
A plaque at 19 High Street commemorates the song and its supposed Massachusetts ties. The town also holds an annual Jingle Bell Festival.
Savannah, Georgia
Residents of Savannah claim the song was written in their town in 1857. Pierpont was buried in Savannah after his death in 1893.
I didn't know this. Thanks for sharing
Very interesting. It’s true that the lyrics never mention Christmas specifically. They describe a winter scene with snow and a sleigh, so we assume…😄

Are you back home ? 😊
