I am working all holidays. On Christmas day, after work, I am headed to my son's gf's place. I have bought all the supper ingredients and she will be cooking a supper for me and my son too. We are all excited to spend the holiday evening together. It is enjoyable to gather round the table, exchanging stories about past Christmases and generally talking. She has a 5-year-old who is wild and she will be noisy, I guess. Not like Christmas family gatherings from years ago where my mom and dad and my family and some siblings and their families gathered together in the farmhouse. We bought thoughtful and often funny gifts after drawing one name a piece. And the noise was laughter mostly. Times sure change. My only hope was to be at home. Cook a nice supper and make a good dessert. The gatherings are small and meaningful especially in these busy times. My wish for Christmas is to share love and togetherness. That is the most important aspect of the holiday. And this year I am making the best of the situation with work. Most previous years, I have had Christmas off and switched to get it and worked New Year's as it means less to me. Happy holidays to you and to yours. And I will take a walk at work and count my blessings even more so than on any other day.
