If I Were A Serious Gambler, I Would Bid On Storage Units….You Never Know What All You Will Get Till You Open Up The Unit….

You might find some very valuable surprises….or a bunch of worn clothing and stinky shoes, used mattresses and other things like boxes of business papers etc that will have to be disposed of and that along with dumping charges will cost you. I knew a couple who bought storage units for money on the side and they accumulated quite a few guns as a result. They’d run the serial numbers through a computer to see if they were stolen and turn them in to the police if they were. Most of them they kept.

I once rented a storage locker to put empty appliance boxes in. Locker fees were cheaper than dump fees

@MarineBob did you fill those boxes up with a lot of other trash and boxes? Because if so this is genius.😂
MarineBob · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti maybe one or two had trash in them

@MarineBob Did your ears start burning about the time the unit was auctioned off? 😂 Cause I bet there was more than a little cussing happening when they got into the unit.

I've watched that show on TV...you kind of have to own a store to sell the stuff....antiques and used furniture sort of thing.

@4meAndyou some people sell on Ebay or other sites or have online auctions and a large yard sale every once in a while. If the clothes are not particularly valuable they may donate them to a thrift shop.

@cherokeepatti But they pay a LOT at auction...not worth it, IMO...not unless you were incredibly lucky!

You can also buy unclaimed mail from the USPS. May find something worth money.
Musicman · 61-69, M
That would be an interesting way to make a little money after retiring.

I wonder if they open them up and inspect them before they put them up for auction.
I watch the storage wars every once in a while and wonder if they ever find anything illegal in some of those units.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Adrift They usually open the door, but no one is allowed in and you can't touch anything. Sometimes there is even a blanket or tarp covering everything. Bidding starts two minutes later.

@Musicman "Meth lab going for one hundred dollars!"

They're always hit and miss
