I had it as a kid, and my little brother had sets, too. And not just space, but city and castle sets. Over time all the pieces were gathered in a large box, which we would dump on the dining room table. The mound of pieces itself became a play scene, like a post-apocalyptic rubble pile.
I made Star Wars objects well before such sets were created. Lots of tie fighters made of three flat pieces, 2x1's for the 2 solar panels, 1x1 for the cockpit in between. And tiny X-wings and a Falcon. And of course star destroyers.
Like this, but I used a rectangular piece for the cockpit.

I do not know what became of that box. I think my brother sold it long ago.
