Why does anyone play the lottery?

I once put two dollars into the multi-state game, and didn't win. It's a classic example of operant conditioning. Without that multimillion dollar payoff, I lost interest in playing again. I think, if I had one a couple hundred million on the first ticket, I would have been hooked as a lifelong customer.

If you play the lottery, how much did you win on your first ticket?

Lotteries are a tax on people who don't understand statistics.

They're buying a dream.

They're voluntarily paying taxes.

@Crazywaterspring The same can be said of smokers and drinkers. Its called discretionary taxation.😷
