do you think hospitals in this day & age are safe places

because iv'e read a few worrying stories recently & watched a few worrying videos on youtube, stories on patients in hospitals in ireland, one story where elderly patients who were critically ill, being neglected, abused and deprived of even basic care from the ' medical staff ', and it took outside visitors of the patients to find out what was going on, to then do something about it, otherwise no one would've known..

one commentor on that story said hospitals are where you're at your most 'vulnerable' and a safe place where you should be cared for, looked after and protected by the medical staff....so what was happening in this hospital was horrendous and substandard........reading the comment i thought that was very true.

then in another Irish hospital a afghan migrant went berserk attacking people with a crowbar, he was arrested.

i'm in england and i know this is ireland but it can still make you worried seeing these stories, wondering are the hospitals here still up to standards and safe places? when you hear of slipping NHS standards and practices......i get concerned what if i had to go into hospital for some procedure, a stay, or investigation....seeing what's happening now you worry will i be safe or at risk?

also i'm not one who has lots of relatives, friends or a support network who could accompany me to the hospital if i had to go, so what would i do if i had to go, i would be quite vulnerable, also i'm in northern england.

thoughts?

Hospitals in the UK are generally very stretched due to staffing and funding issues. My local one needs to be double the size to cater for the population change in the area. Safety is a concern when things get stretched as waiting times increase. I would say that my experience is safety measures are in place and staff react quickly. The recent example with someone mentally unwell are not as common but I know mental health provision is also stretched as well.

Agree with others that you are more likely to pick up something in a hospital environment. A&E is for genuine accidents and emergencies. Other sources are pharmacy, GP practice or walk in centres.

Hospitols are a sess pool of questions!
You are correct to not want to go..you are 5 tumes more likely to get sicker there! I only go to a dr as needed and hospitol only in case of emergency. They get paid too much to mess you up and try to " fix" you later from sonething they caused. I know people in USA and we had a dr get a law suit for leaving a needle in a paitebt, gave them infected skin they lost her right arm! Its not safe for sure! Anything theses days is DEFINITELY scary places to be
