Why are the French so slim ?
Because they do not eat a lot
Because they do not snack
Apart from bread they hardly eat any carbs
Fizzy drinks are not in the diet
No snacks between meals

New figures suggest the longstanding reputation, that has been the subject of books like Why French Women don't Get Fat, is more myth than reality (or perhaps just based on a wealthy Paris elite).

The figures released on Tuesday reveal that over the age of 30, some 56.8 percent of French men are overweight or obese and 40.9 percent of French women of the same age also tip the scales as obese or overweight.

This comes from a study carried out by French researchers at the journal Bulletin épidémiologique hebdomadaire (BEH).

Researchers weighed 30,000 French people for the study, finding that 15.8 percent of the men classified as obese compared to 15.6 percent of women.

NHANES 2016 statistics showed that about 39.6% of American adults were obese.

The reason we invented statistics and use it to make important decisions is because it reveals the truth about our world which may not be intuitive or obvious.

You get the choice between two medicines:
One was prepared by a doctor who tested in thoroughly, crunched the numbers and found out how many test subjects it helped, how many it didn't help, how many had serious complications etc.
The other one was tested by a doctor who said "Yeah, seemed like it was working pretty well" and starts using it.
