Is it true:

I hear that the US stock market has spiked (up), on the news that a US company is near to developing a vaccine against Covid-19. The UK BBC seem hesitant to cover this as yet. Have you heard anything on this? Or is it fake/premature news....

It is true. Stocks are up because many states are beginning Phase One reopening...that means that more small businesses and large businesses can reopen.

Governor Baker announced today that we have entered Phase One, and if cases continue to go down, we continue on to Phase Two. I believe it is slightly different in each state, but for Massachusetts, as of today Churches, Construction businesses, and manufacturing businesses all have the green light.
Essential services such as grocery and pharmacy and restaurant delivery have been open the whole time.

If we can do the above for two weeks with cases continuing to go down, then we will enter Phase Two, which means that nail salons, and public swimming pools will re-open.

During all of the different phases of re-opening, it depends entirely on whether we continue to see a reduction in new cases.

@4meAndyou Thank you. Informed, informing and helpful. As always. 🤗
@4meAndyou that's good news. The virus peaked in WA state on April 2nd. The number of COVID infections and deaths has been in decline since. On April 2nd, there was 30 COVID deaths that day and the state was averaging about 25 deaths per day at that time. We are now down to 1-4 deaths per day. We didn't just flatten the curve, it's been in decline over the last 6 weeks. May 5th marked entry into Phase 1, where limited outdoor activity such as golf and fishing opened up. June 1st is the target date for Phase 2 to begin (four phase plan).

@BizSuitStacy Baker and our local news services are extremely limited in the information they will provide, so at times it is like pulling teeth to find the full scope of Phase I.
@4meAndyou my gripe has been the lack of defined metrics. While our governor said transitioning out of one phase and into the next will be based on achieving certain metrics, he's never defined what those are. We have no measurable criteria to determine what's required to exit Phase 1 and enter Phase 2. So it's really up to the whim of the politicians. They can decide to keep us locked down if it suits them.

@BizSuitStacy He is most likely using the phased re-opening guidelines set by the CDC...declining cases for 14 days straight...enter phase one...declining cases for an additional 14 days enter phase two...if in phase one your cases rise, return to lock down mode...and so on. But newly reported cases, not deaths, will determine phased re-entry.

And THAT is up to the greed of the various hospitals who want Covid funding. 😖
