In my town, in one care home, 22 residents, 10 have just passed.

Are we at risk of blaming Covid for everything.

@PainfulTruth I wasn't.

It's a function of crowded conditions with constant, intense physical contact. Many nursing home residents can't feed themselves, can't dress themselves, can't bathe themselves, can't go to the bathroom without assistance.

Many residents are incontinent, or may drool, or may not be able to control their behavior or movements.

Some are very fragile and require more than one staff person to just transfer them from bed into a wheel chair.

Assisting them are nurses, nurse's aids, physical therapist, behavioral therapist, etc. who go from resident to resident, and in some cases may go from nursing home to nursing home.

From this experience, hopefully will come better ways to care for the compromised elderly.

They are in a "care home" because of underlying conditions, yet it will all be blamed on the virus.

Seems like nobody in care homes is dying from heart attacks, strokes, etc. now, it’s all COVID related.

It's not the corona ya need ta blame it's the idiots mps telling us bull shit

When and if they publish the details no one can be accurate, doubts will persist.

@Nyloncapes Exactly 👍️

The Tories along with local authorities invented 'fudge'.

@Nimbus we are going to have increase in infections again , today the tubes and buses just packed like before this , people I think think it is back to normal now , out and about,
Nimbus · M
@Nyloncapes I know, it's stupid but what can one do?
It's out of our hands.
A friend works in a hospital near me. She’s seen a lot of people die since the pandemic. The reason people with existing health problems (including many of the elderly) are so vulnerable is that Covid-19 is known to exacerbate those problems. So yes, it can be legitimately blamed for causing deaths that might’ve taken a little longer.

What do you mean "at risk of blaming Covid for everything"?
Valentine · M
@HannahSkyPeople in care homes are most likely to be at the upper quartile of life. People in the upper quartile of life are more likely to pass, statistically. How do we get to 'the truth'.

@Valentine If you're in a nursing home, it's likely you have multiple health issues which overall will weaken your immune system, ability to fight disease. Having multiple chronic diseases and frailty is in some ways as or more important than chronological age. An 80-year-old who is otherwise healthy and might be more resilient in fighting off infection than a 60-year-old with many chronic conditions. Living in a nursing home whether for the rest of your life or temp skilled nursing for post surgery or illness it's highly likely they will be at higher risk for fighting the virus.

@Valentine It's not that so much as the fact that as you age your breathing capacity is likely to be hindered by things known like Emphysema; pulmonary problems; Asthma; pleural effusion (water around the lungs) and they can be life-threatening in themselves.
But if the person was considered reasonably 'well' prior to 'lockdown' even WITH these problems, and there are known cases of covid-19 in their living space, it's quite likely that will be THE factor that causes their end of life.
