Is it normal to have suicidal thoughts when you've become crippled??

I've got a herniated disc in my neck and it's causing me physical pain, numbness the whole works, I've been thinking of ending it all so I don't need to deal with this anymore.... yes there's surgery but what happens if I come out more broken than what I am...

I wouldn't describe it as normal but it's definitely an option, especially if you're a glass-half-empty kind of person anyway. There are lots of worse things that could happen though (than being crippled) and it's not necessarily a barrier against living an enormously rewarding life if you adopt a health attitude.
