Why is it considered normal to bathe/shower daily?

It didn't become normal until relatively recently in history, and dermatologists are saying it's not really good for our skin, unless we are getting dirty/sweaty every single day.

Because Americans are paranoid/ashamed about being physical human beings? Plus we're the product of 100+ years of massive advertising campaigns aimed at making us feel insecure enough to buy grooming products to make ourselves acceptable.
