There are a few other causes of nail pitting that are not related to psoriasis. They include: connective tissue disorders, such as Reiter's syndrome (a form of reactive arthritis), and osteoarthritis. autoimmune diseases, such as alopecia areata, sarcoidosis, and pemphigus vulgaris.
Treatment options
1. Antifungal treatment: This might be needed if there is also a fungal infection.
2. Steroid injected into the nail: This treatment can be painful.
3. Removing the nail: Nails can be removed either by using an ointment that takes 7 days to work, or surgically with a local anesthetic.
