How long does it take for the sensitivity to not be so bad after a toenail is removed?

Its been 2 days since I had my toenail removed and holy cow it's still tender enough that I dont keep anything in my bladder any more. I would rather have all of my tattoos redone in one day than do this again. The boot that I got helps alot with not hurting it any more. I have dropped many things and kicked plenty of things since I had it done. I am glad that I have the boot now. Do you think I am nuts for wearing a boot for a tonail? Would you wear one after having your big toenail removed?[image]

Around two to three weeks. Keep it clean yet you might want to consider either soaking in white vinegar or using tea tree oil to prevent any fungus. Sometimes just keeping it clean isn't enough if a fungus should development underneath the new nail. Big problems then.

Fungus is a problem with men over 40 and lost toenails.

@DeWayfarer Fungus is the reason that I had to have it taken off.

@ColoradoKid Sorry to hear that. My own problem was because my steel toed boots were not enough. Boot got crushed and so did my toe nail. Lucky I didn't loose the toe. But I did have problems with fungus. The white vinegar helped with that.

@DeWayfarer I will have to give that a test. I have been using 91% alcohol on it.

It can take up to a week. Although as for your toenail coming back... it's gonna be a very long and painful month or two.

I dropped a log on my toe and had the nail come off. Took about a week for the pain to go down enough that walking was comfortable again.

Minimum of 2 weeks before the real sensitivity backs off. 6 weeks before each knock is pain free?

@SW-User I asked my doc for something to protect it. He said that all they do is gauze. So I got a boot that has a hard top. I am glad that I got it. I have dropped and kicked things since and that toe seems to attract all of the abuse. And I had re torn my meniscus so I am going through some hell..
