Those with sleep problems...

I've always had sleep problems for years, but I just started this new medication and it is even worse! I'm taking hormones for a hormonal imbalance and I read that one of the side effects is trouble with sleeping.
I can now only sleep like 2-3 hours at a time, 2-3 times during a 24 hour period. I'm so exhausted because my body never gets to reach a deep sleep that sleeping an 8 hour block would give.
Does anybody have any tips on how to fall asleep and stay asleep?
My husband works swing shifts and his doctor recommended taking a benadryl and melatonin help with that sort of thing.

I sometimes take melatonin and it works well for me on it's own.

Thanks! I'm going to try that!

I sometimes take melatonin. One night, after taking melatonin, I realized that, when I lay down, I couldn't breathe, my sinuses were all plugged up, so I took a Benadryl. Bad idea. They interacted and ever me a bad night of itches and jitters.

Okay, well maybe I will just try the melatonin and see if that makes a difference!

Benadryl helps for me, too. But every once in a while it backfires and makes me jittery.
