Would people be more understanding about depression if it had physical symptoms ?

The fact that you cannot see it, doesn't mean it's not there and that it is not less important than a physical illness.

Probably, it would be more easily diagnosed too. Mental illness especially are very difficult to treat in this aspect because being as they manifest entirely in someone's mind, each and every victim has a slightly different concept of it. It's different for everyone and that requires a huge range of different treatments and resources to fix it.
