Is the tax on meat because of attacks on meat?
@revenant Alarmism is the religion of the left, and it is definitely a powerful political tool as well as a the ultimate cash cow. From a fatalistic perspective it's pure genius.

@puck61 and honing their tactics
@revenant They've managed to dupe the vast majority.

Taxing something to change behaviour seems like a lazy political solution although sadly one that works. Although it works here for alcohol, nicotine, and sugar, meat is a different proposition because it's not intrinsically unhealthy to humans, and the issues with meat production won't be fixed by taxing those who eat it.

@revenant That's not the tax though, that's social influence.
revenant · F
@MartinTheFirst it goes with it. Push the sin thing and tax the deplorables. Here.
GlassDog · 41-45, M
@MartinTheFirst It's really made a difference here. In my group of friends, only one was a non-smoker, and now we're all non-smokers except for one. Then again, cigarettes cost almost double where I am than where you are.

Sounds like fascism.

Sounds like Vegans would love that.

@cherokeepatti comes from them
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@revenant I imagine it would.

It would need a lot more evidence for me to agree to taxes on meat. I do agree that some controls over calorie content on meals is a good idea.
revenant · F
@TheConstantGardener they argue that it is not the calorie content but the ingredients.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@revenant But it's cals that make you fat isn't it? I mean every solution to obesity that I've seen advocates controlling calories as a first step.

Raising taxes generally doesn't work. I think we need a flat tax because it is the most fair, rather than taxing the wealthy at an exorbitant rate.

It sounds stupid.
So, is meat a luxury item now?
Budwick · 70-79, M
@revenant Reve - If it's bad for you, don't buy it.
I don't need some Nanny State deciding what's good or bad for me and penalizing me for not sharing their opinion.

How about if I were to tax them for stupid ideas?
revenant · F
@Budwick ahah but..but...they are not stupid ideas but brilliant and to save your life too and stop cows from farting !
Budwick · 70-79, M
@revenant You telling me what to eat is stupid.
You thinking you can keep cows from farting is also stupid.

Rev - if you sincerely want to help - please invent an 18 wheeler or jumbo jet to operate on wind or solar. Get back to me tomorrow with a full report.

Sounds like double tax
