Would you not want to know as much as you can about your spouse/S/O 's illness so that you knew how you can help in some way ?

I have had a good friend for several years who has convinced himself he has one disease after another. Every time I researched for him, and and every time he did NOT have that particular disease. Turns out he actually has a very slow growing form of blood cancer that could turn into leukemia (worst case scenario), and there is nothing that can be done to help him. I just deal with each sympton he finds as it arises. Now he wants to have knee revision surgery. I have had to distance myself emotionally, because it is just too much...over and over again.
