I wonder if loneliness has an effect on the psyche?

Im sure the lack of touch has an effect. I’m also pretty sure it makes a person more prone to depression and suicide.

Yes .I find it pretty painful.

@VioletRayne That was in response to your comment " which is why I don’t understand why people sabotage great relationships" I mean we DONT always sabotage...we just don't know wtf we are doing. I am twice your age and it took me and many of my friends that long to realize what we were doing wrong
VioletRayne · 36-40, F
@Fernie i don’t mean people who genuinely try. I mean there are a lot of people out there pretending simply because they don’t want to be alone. Jumping from relationship to relationship hurting people simply for their own selfish desires.
Fernie · F
@VioletRayne Yes, my point exactly...many of us get into relationships for the wrong reasons and then it falls apart because there is NO real love there. There is need
marsbar · F
I agree with you.

We are social animals. Even those who are too shy/apprehensive/socially inept, find outlets, such as the Internet. Sometime, it's hard to tell what comes first, depression or loneliness. At some point though, it becomes a downward spinning cycle, and that of course has a huge effect of the psyche and general health.

In addition to the health/mental issues, lonely people, are vulnerable, as they may be desperate to get out of the loneliness cycle, so they end up doing things that hurt them long term. Nigerian scams depend on it.

The crushing loneliness absolutely can drive a person mad
AlmostAnAngel · 100+, F
I got a pet...no drama.
AlmostAnAngel · 100+, F
@Fernie I've lost pets before...and it hurt so very much...I waited a long time to get this one. He may pass before I do...but at least I know I gave him so much love while he was alive and I will remember the love he gave me. ( I googled the meaning) 🌹
Fernie · F
@AlmostAnAngel Well, that is pet loss pain and guilt....horrible...I'm talking about day to day guilt...my cat being stuck in a small apartment, very little stimulation, her gazing out the window watching birds she can never hunt,no other pets to keep her company, she sleeps 18 hours a day and I...like many people project my own feelings onto her.
AlmostAnAngel · 100+, F
@Fernie I can understand that.

It does ave a psychic affect on a person's "well being" ,but it also can make you a stronger person.
Loneliness and lack of touch have a HUGE effect on the psyche.
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
This is worrisome.

Touch is important.
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
I’m pretty sure you’re right, girl!
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
I'm sure it does. The lack of intimacy.
SW-User
Yup it does for me. Makes me feel dead inside
Zonuss · 46-50, M
It's a choice. You can connect with whoever you want to. Never let fear or doubt get in the way.
VioletRayne · 36-40, F
@Zonuss I don’t think it’s that simple when hearts are involved
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
It does. I have been lonely all my life. It sucks.
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@VioletRayne I am used to it.
VioletRayne · 36-40, F
@JoyfulSilence you shouldn’t have to be
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@VioletRayne It is what it is. I cannot make people love me.
DDonde · 31-35, M
It does. Humans are social animals.
VioletRayne · 36-40, F
@DDonde Thats what I was thinking. I was focusing more on romantic loneliness though.

@Stereoguy Thats true but I was thinking more like can loneliness kill or drive someone insane. Like the opposite effect of broken heart syndrome. You know how elderly married people often die right behind one another.
