One possible answer to people who do this is to ask them, " If I were an alcoholic, would you put whisky in front of me and urge me to drink it? If I were quitting smoking, would you insist it wouldn't hurt me to smoke a cigarette?"
It should also be pointed out that husbands who tell their wives they're overweight and then sabotage diets are often fearful of their wives being attractive to other men. They fear she might have more choices and would then not choose them.
And if you're the fattest lady in the room, other women are often glad because if you became slim, it would shake up the social dominance order and that might put them in a place of less social status. In other words, those who point out our weight problem are often unconsciously glad to feel superior and they don't really want that to change.
