I want a gun
I'm sick of being nervous every time I get gas when its dark out.

Given the number of disgusting creeps out there, of course a young woman is going to feel nervous, especially at night. Often times the bad guys have guns, why not the good guys?
All these people saying getting a gun is a bad idea, I wonder if they would discourage their own daughters from getting one if she lived in a bad city.
People say "People are often killed by their own gun" or even, "Self defense methods do not really work" and maybe that is true but in the worst situations, you have to try something, anything to maybe escape the danger. If you do nothing, you are dead meat. If you at least try, you might survive.
Of course do train with it and use it only if absolutely necessary.
