Pepper spray is generally better for self defense.
a) There's a lot less legal risk in using nonlethal force, less likely to wind up in a lengthy court battle or a prison cell.
b) You're less likely to hesitate to make someone's eyes feel like they're burning for a few hours than you are to hesitate to kill someone. That hesitation could be the difference between life and death.
c) The risk of being hurt in an accidental discharge is much lower with pepper spray.
d) Pepper spray invites less government oversight and is allowed in more situations than a firearm is.

@BlueVeins I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six, some people high on certain street drugs aren't even affected by pepper spray, namely pcp, ketamine, cocaine, crack, and heroin.

@NativePortlander1970 All of life is just a preponderance of risks, and the odds of getting jumped by a crazy guy on bath salts that you can't deescalate with is very, very low. May as well stay inside to avoid getting hit by a meteor at that point.

@NativePortlander1970 It might not be better to be armed and not need it. What if your weapon is used against you? What if you pulling out a gun escalates the situation unnecessarily escalates a situation and gets you killed? Or, as I said earlier, what if you hesitate too long and die as a result? You're being illogical.
@BlueVeins As for hesitating I am a survivor of crime and weapons pulled on me when I was only 18, I wouldn't hesitate in a single heartbeat, they'd be on the ground with holes in them before they took a step.
