Why is a guy being circumsized considered the normal? [I Circumcision]

It's totally unnatural so why is it preferred over a natural uncircumcised penis. I don't understand why people would want a guy to remove part of THEIR body.
It's awful to have to do that to yourself just to be considered normal.
So why is this accepted?

For Jewish and Islamic societies it's a religious ritual. (In my own opinion, it's a symbolic castration but that's only me)

Circumcision is difficult to understand in societies which are traditionally rooted in a Christian denomination.

@helenS True but even if you aren't religious, circumcision is still considered normal to people

@Meatboy In Central Europe (that's where I live) it isn't considered to be normal. I have rarely, if ever, met a man who was circumcised.

@helenS It has nothing to do with castration, as far as I know it's for hygienic reasons because those cultures lived in hot deserts. I'm from Eastern Europe but have Turkish ancestry, I'm circumcized, it's not about being normal it's tradition.

@DrSunnyTheSkeptic Again plenty of people do it/prefer it. Not just specific countries or religions

I do not think anyone can seriously claim that the foreskin of a man's penis will lead to diseases in the desert. That's ridiculous.

@DrSunnyTheSkeptic Some say it is based on the biblical story in which Abraham was told by God to sacrifice his sone. Isaac was tied down to the alter and a ram was sacrificed when God spare Abraham from carrying out the sacrifice. Some believe the circumcision is a symbol of that act. The ritual circumcision in the Jewish religion is most often m=not performed by a physician, but by a person specially trained in the religious and medical aspect of the procedure, called a mohel.

There is some evidence of a health benefit, in cases of HIV/AIDS, in penile cancer, etc., but that is difficult to really measure given the many variables involved.

When i was in the military, I met with parents before their baby was born. I tried to convince them not to have their male infants circumcised. In the 2 years, not a single family elected to not have a circumcision.

No physician will do a circumcision without obtaining parental consent, and such physicians are trained in how to perform them!
