Haha...OUCH! A waiter said something even worse once, when I was out with a friend.

@DrWatson Around 12 years ago when a friend and I were out and about, we stopped at a TGI Fridays for a beer and a snack. It was in the afternoon and the place was almost empty, and our young waitperson was quite enthusiastic and friendly. At one point he popped up with "are you mother and daughter?"
My friend had recently lost a considerable amount of weight, and had voiced her awareness of how much older the weight loss made her look in the face. After an awkward silence, one of us said no, that we were just friends. It was probably my friend, who laughed it off most convincingly.
