A question for seniors....

Does it irritate you when younger people treat you like you're an illiterate idiot just because you're older?
So my internet bill is on AutoPay on the 22nd of each month. It's around $81 a month. Well today I got a notification for next months bill and it was $191.00! So I called to see why it was so high. The younger lady who answered the phone kept calling me "Miss Mardrae " which I detest! After I heard it a few times, I told her my name was Mardrae, not Miss Mardrae and that no woman over 40 wants to be called Miss first name. She apologized and said she would check on my bill. Ends up that my bank didn't withdraw the auto payment on the 22nd which resulted in me having a late fee, a double payment and something else. So I asked her if I could pay the late payment that the bank didn't withdraw. She said yes and that she would send me an epay link. I paid it as soon as she sent the link and asked her if it went through. And then she started...Oh goodness!! I'm SO proud of you!!You did it!!! Good girl!! " and then she loudly kept saying how proud she was of me, over and over. It made me feel like either a very small toddler, a 6 week old puppy, or a 99 year old woman with dementia in a nursing home. I asked her WHY she was so proud of me, but she kept on being exhububerant, telling me how PROUD she was of me. I shouldn't let things like that bother me but getting old really bothers me when people treat me like I am an imbecile.
Really, I dont think this is about being a senior as much as it is being competent in basic technology. I know it feels like you are being treated like a toddler, I think service people are often overjoyed when they dont have to hold your hand. If it was my mom, not only would she not have been able to do this on her own, she would have loved being called a good girl and told how well she had done. but she's 80 something.... and possibly autistic. So there is something to say about how you view motives.

Question vfor non seniors: can you function without technological gadgets? Like making change for a cash purchase

The bodily function part of getting old is a pain. Literally. But I make fun of it. Irony is my friend. The intellectual part was never a problem until I quit work. Since nearly everyone I came into contact with was under 30 and I long ago learned Millenial shorthand. If you talk the talk you can skate through it. I just avoid places in person where the hip young (like barristas and computer sales people) gather.. 😷

you should have told her to shut up

@oldguy73 I wish I had not been so polite. I was literally in shock when she kept saying that.

What an oddball.
I never use the Miss prefix... I changed it for Ms as a teenager.

Now that I'm old enough, I will keep to Mrs Owl, though. Yes, it might be old fashioned for some, but it's less triggering for me.

@HootyTheNightOwl where I'm from, it's a direct way of saying " you're OLD"
