Sedation or anesthesia?

I have to get my first root canal soon. Problem is, I get TMJ jaw pain often (night clenching) and it could affect me having to have several breaks during the procedure. I also have a misaligned jaw which can cause vertigo occasionally. I described these issues to the endodontist who was going to do the root canal, and he advised I go to a center that offers either sedation or anesthesia (fully out).
I don't know which to choose. Sedation might be ok but do you feel weird? What if I feel jaw pain still , could I communicate to the doctor are are you so groggy?
Anyone have either sedated or anesthesia for a dental procedure?

With the many different things you struggle with, I’d opt for the complete knock out juice and immediate pain med injections before you wake if possible and offered.

If they don’t offer that then let them know you want a pain med prescription before the appointment so you have them on hand for as soon as you wake.

Wishing you all the best and I hope the guy is a gifted orthodontist.

Be well
Chew happy

I had anesthesia when my wisdom teeth were pulled and it was fine

I have had full Anaesthesia for getting my wisdom teeth out and it was ok. A bit tired after. But at least I didn’t feel the procedure

anesthesia. But you know you probably need a ride home

I really think full sedation is excessive. Root canals aren’t that bad. You’ll be done in less than an hour. Just do it!!

@Baybreeze I wonder if your dentist is just impatient and lazy. Root canals don’t take that long. Maybe 30 minutes total. I find it impossible to believe your dentist can’t get it done easily for you. Going under is serious stuff .

@Muthafukajones yeah I'm a bit nervous to go fully under. I did for my wisdom teeth but that was a surgery technically..I wondered a bit too why he could not accommodate me, i asked could i have breaks? And he said we could take break. I was thinking I need more than one😕 he said it's about an hour in total. I'm just worried about the sedation if I chose that too, Bec I feel what if for some reason I cant communicate with them my jaw hurts? Although it says online you can hear and communicate..you just feel heavy arms and like a floating feel. I don't think I'd like a floating feel. All this really sucks.

@Baybreeze I have a lot of anxiety about the dentist. My dentist has no problem taking breaks. You just need to take deep breaths for a couple minutes each break. You can do it! If he gets impatient find another dentist.
I was fully knocked out for wisdom teeth removal. Other tooth removal was just novocain. I've never had sedation. The surgeon should be able to explain which one is best for your case given your other issues.

@LeopoldBloom I'm going to call today. I forgot that, I was also under completely for wisdom teeth surgery. Maybe I should choose that as I won't be aware of any pain in my jaw .
