It's so strange for me to see what looks like a mediaeval castle in Greece. That period of Greek history is completely unknown to me yet classical Greek history of a thousand years earlier feels very familiar.

@ninalanyon there's a big era called the Dark Ages for reasons... Our history is very complicated. One day will write about it perhaps..

@Boeing Ah yes, the much misunderstood period after the fall of the Roman Empire. Whoever decided to call it the Dark Ages should be given a severe talking to, except that they are most likely long dead. Those centuries weren't necessarily dark for those who lived through them, but modern scholars can't see them because not much written evidence of how life was has survived. It's us moderns who are in the Dark about the period between about 450 CE and about 900 CE.

@ninalanyon Historians and archaeologists are now seeing that period with more respect, as bit and pieces of evidence appear.
Rather I suppose as archaeologists and palaeontologists now longer feed the Disneyesque myths slandering the Neanderthals, perhaps!
