F*$k our healthcare system in US. I just found out that one of my new prescriptions is going to be $250 a month

@Younameit No unfortunately not I have an HMO plan and they don't allow any of the discount options like Good RX. I called an asked. If my plan doesn't cover it there isn't anything I can do but put in for financial assistance to pay for the prescriptions if I qualify. Not looking good though they want you to be well below poverty line, but I am going to shoot for it any ways.

@NativePortlander1970 Yes but my insurance doesn't allow it, I would have to pay outside of my insurance and they said I'd need to fill the prescription outside of their facility.

@NativePortlander1970 If you have an HMO insurance plan which I do they can limit your ability to use those. I called them today they said no they won't accept it and I would have to get my prescription filled else where if I wanted to try and use a discount app and the portion that my insurance does cover would not be covered then.

@SlippingAway That makes no sense, if Good RX is lower than your insurance copay You should be allowed to use it, ask your pharmacy, every single one honors it.

@NativePortlander1970 Trust me I did I called today and spoke to the Pharmacy and my doctors office to see if there was a cheaper option. This was directly from them. It's an HMO they work differently than a PPO I can't use GoodRX with them I asked specifically if I could use any of the discount apps or cards and was told no, and even then i would have to go outside my HMO pharmacy to try and get it filled.

@NativePortlander1970 If the manufacturer of my medicine offered a coupon or discount I could apply through them but they don't. I tried asking them too, it's a specialty med so it's not one of those more used meds that a lot of folks use.

@SlippingAway Oh dear, as someone who has worked in insurance for years, they’re lying. Anyone can use it. Goodrx doesn’t work with insurance, it’s completely independent from that . It’s actually for people who either don’t have medical insurance or have a medication your insurance doesn’t cover. You don’t need to show your insurance ID or anything.
You go to their website and type in the name of the medication, if it’s available, they will generate a discount code for you, you show that code to the pharmacy tech at Walgreens. For example , instead of paying $250 you could pay $100, still expensive but better $250. They have a variety of drugs available for discounts, not all, but most.

I have Kaiser they do not allow GoodRX on my plan. They offer some plans that allow you to do this, I do not have one of their choice plans. They are not lying to me this isn't an option on the Kaiser HMO plan.

@SlippingAway I have a super specialty niche medication called sildenafil for my lungs, $1,100 for a 30 day supply, Good RX got it for me for $21 for 30 days until my medicare Plan D straightened out after my state medicaid stopped six months after my social security disability started when my madicare A&B kicked in. I was a huge mess.

@SlippingAway Kaiser, enough said, they're the most corrupt of all health insurance companies, blue cross isn't far behind.

You should't need your plan's approval to use GoodRx. Simply go to the site and put in the drug and dose and it will give you a variety of stores, all with different prices. Find the cheapest and transfer the prescription to that location and that is what you will pay. That's the way it works for me.

@Diotrephes I am not going to argue with everyone here unless you have a Kaiser HMO plan and they told you specifically you can use goodrx with your plan just let it go. I talked to several people today I can not use GOODRX ON MY PLAN

@SlippingAway We're not arguing with You, we're saying that Kaiser is lying to You, You can use Good RX separate from them, have your pharmacist help You with it, many times Good RX as an independent discount plan is far cheaper and more affordable than your regular Kaiser prescription plan.

@NativePortlander1970 I am not going to keep going rounds on this. Do you have a Kaiser HMO plan? My prescription is covered partially by my plan just not fully. Good RX if I use it outside of Kaiser I would forfiet the amount that my plan does cover and I've looked it up it would be more expensive to do it that way. I don't know what else to say here GOODRx is not a savior for everyone

@NativePortlander1970 They aren't dropping me from the plan, they just won't cover their portion if I go outside the Kaiser network. That's not illegal, that's just the way the HMO plan works you have to get your prescriptons from them for them to cover their portion. I can't go to any non Kaiser facilities either to get care unless it's contracted with Kaiser :(

@SlippingAway The way it works is not as a supplementary but as a discount plan, you use Good RX instead of Kaiser, I misunderstood, it sounded as though Kaiser would drop You if You went with Good RX instead of Kaiser for a prescription.

@NativePortlander1970 No it's just they won't cover their portion of my prescription if I don't use their facility and I can't use GoodRX with them.

@SlippingAway I just said that, you cannot use them together, Good RX is not a supplementary, it's independent of itself, it's used by itself, it is a discount plan, separate from Kaiser, not to be used with Kaiser.
