F*$k our healthcare system in US. I just found out that one of my new prescriptions is going to be $250 a month

And that's with insurance. I have shitty insurance, I pay an arm and leg for it to not cover jack shit. I am so pissed, I can't afford this and there is no generic option it's a specialty prescription. I am already am struggling with just everyday life expenses. It's messed up that I have to put it on a credit card just so I can keep my health up so I can work to survive.

Alright I needed to get that vent out. I am going to go take my anger out on walk

Have you contacted the manufacturer to see if they have co-pay assistance? My daughter's meds were covered in large part by the drug maker. (Sorry if you've already answered this but I'm not seeing everyone's responses)

@ineedadrink Unfortunately they do not have this for my medicine, I am trying to see if I can qualify for medical assistance to help pay for it due to income
Younameit · F
@SlippingAway You may qualify for Medicaid.
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
@Younameit No I have an employer sponsored plan and I know I make more than the income limits in my State for Medicaid :(

I’m so sorry. Our healthcare really is messed up. Have you checked goodrx, and then to see if the manufacturer of the prescription has a program to help? And I’d mention it to your doctor as well, they may be aware of someway to help, or be able to get sample packets for you
Younameit · F
Is Good rx an option? I have used it for branded medications not sure if they have coupons for specialty, but doesn’t hurt to try.
@SlippingAway The way it works is not as a supplementary but as a discount plan, you use Good RX instead of Kaiser, I misunderstood, it sounded as though Kaiser would drop You if You went with Good RX instead of Kaiser for a prescription.
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
@NativePortlander1970 No it's just they won't cover their portion of my prescription if I don't use their facility and I can't use GoodRX with them.
@SlippingAway I just said that, you cannot use them together, Good RX is not a supplementary, it's independent of itself, it's used by itself, it is a discount plan, separate from Kaiser, not to be used with Kaiser.
Sorry to hear, know this is a tough thing to hit you at this time.

Check to see if the manufacturer has any relief programs .. several mention it in their ads and have websites for their programs.
Omg, that's horrible
Is there any likd online coupons for it? I had to do that with one my meds. How they expect us to afford that

Luckily I got spectacular insurance a week prior to my brain tumor finally being diagnosed the medication is/was 10k a month wtf
YoMomma ·
Get a different insurance that covers more things and meds included?
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
@YoMomma Not an option, it's employer sponsored so they pay part of it but there is only one option
YoMomma ·
@SlippingAway oh 😤 that’s not right 😤 are you sure it’s not a better option to entirely ditch their option and go for something else entirely? 😤
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
@YoMomma Unfortunately no, and the 2026 individual market place rates are expected to double if they don't pass the ACA concessions that are due to expire at the end of this year. So it will be even worse next year for folks if that doesn't happen. You can only get credits if your employer doesn't offer a plan not if the plan is expensive :(
