Today is my mom’s surgery, and I am very nervous.
I want to share our struggles with public hospitals, because it has been a long and painful journey for us.
We first went to the ER last July 13, 2025, and only today, September 9, 2025, did my mom finally get scheduled for surgery. That’s almost two months of waiting.
Our ER experience was terrible. It was very messy, and some of the nurses were rude. My mom was anxious and kept asking questions because she didn’t understand what was happening, but instead of explaining kindly, the nurse made her feel dumb. We even had to stay there more than 12 hours before she got help.
The hardest part was always waiting in line. Everything had to be queued. Even when my mom was in pain and very nervous, we still had to wait our turn just to see a doctor or get tests. Watching her sit there, hurting and scared, while waiting for her number to be called broke my heart.
During the long wait for surgery, my mom lost a lot of weight. Not just because of her sickness, but also because of stress and worry. She even asked the doctors if she could get medicine to help calm her down, but they just said she’d be fine. She wasn’t, her anxiety got worse as the surgery came closer.
Another painful moment was just yesterday. We were told to come because it was finally her turn, but when we got to the hospital, we found out there was no room for her. She had to go back home and return again today. It crushed her because she was already prepared in her mind, only to be told to wait again.
I know public hospitals are crowded and lack funds, but some things can still be improved, like how nurses talk to patients, how the ER is managed, and just showing more care and compassion.
As her son, it breaks me to see her in pain, but I will always be here beside her. Please include my mom in your prayers today, it means a lot.
