has anyone ever had an ECG

that procedure to test your heart? i'm starting new antipsychotic tablet soon and i must undergo an ECG and bloodtests before i start the new medication and i'm nervous about having an ECG, because i thought what if they find something wrong??

i'm fearful of anything medical and clinical, so these clinical procedures will put the fear up me a little.......i have to try the new medication because i have to show 'willing'.

any thoughts at all?

ECG aka EKG are nothing to worry about. They stick the little electrodes on you and record the electrical activity of the heart. It doesn't hurt at all and it doesn't take long at all.

I had to get them done when I was on Abilify for an Antipsychotic. They can be quite lifesaving as Abilify caused a bad arrhythmia.

They can also gather evidence of heart disease or damage, which even though you don't want to hear something is wrong, it's better to know and handle it as soon as you can.

I promise you, they're easy peasy. You got this.

@darkmere1983 I was on the highest dose they can treat you with in 24hrs, so that could be why? Or I just got unlucky.

I've been on every second Gen antipsychotic except fanapt, I've had a couple first gens and I'm on a third Gen right now.

Mind if I ask what this new one is? Maybe I've been on it lol.

@MemoirsOfTheDamned i don't know yet, i have an appointment with my psychiatrist soon and he's going to tell me what it is, so once i know i'll get back to you on this post.

i don't really want to take medication but i have to show willing and cooperation with the mental health services, show that i'm complying with treatment...it was nice know you've had experience of all these meds and know what you are talking about, it made me feel less alone, thank you for reaching out.
@darkmere1983 Oh! Any time! Yes. Let me know. I'm on a handful of psychiatric medications and I am a medical nerd. Anything I can do to help, just let me know!

I had one before when I was 10, the worst part was having to take my shirt off.
I promise it won’t hurt. 🙂
