What happens if my chronic urinary tract infection is left untreated?

I know you guys aren't a doctor, please ONLY comment if you have an idea.

One of my uncles had that and it turned into a kidney infection. He didn’t go to the doctor until he got really sick and then he was hospitalized for months and had to be on meds the rest of his life. I think he was in his late 50’s or early 60’s when it happened.

This depends on the level of the infection and the competency of the ureter valves.
Lower urinary tract infections often remain in the bladder or more at the urethral entrance. Most infections are self limiting. They can become chronic and leave your sufferer with a very uncomfortable itch or pain.
The problem comes if the ureter valves from the bladder are incompetent or the infection is higher as the kidney will become involved.
This is a much more dangerous situation as it can lead to sepsis and also block the kidney on the side affected, this is very painful, leading to loss of kidney function, which may be permanent, and sometimes more significant problems, and if not treated can lead to death.
Kidney stones can also cause blockages and infections as well.

Sepsis doesn't describe the pain enough.

You'll do anything to get rid of the pain. Treatment is simple once diagnosed. Some type of antibiotics.

@DeWayfarer Like most infections, it could just go away on it's own BUT it could also spread.
Worst case scenario is someone's coochie could fall off.

@Punches I couldn't take the pain. I was forced to go to urgent care and be fully embarrassed by a much younger woman doctor with a even younger woman RN watching.

Both at first thought I was faking it.

@DeWayfarer You were thinking, "SOB, Why not just bring in the Hawaiian Tropic bikini team to watch as well?" 😡

But yeah I had a UTI once. What mine felt like was - you know that feeling when you REALLY have to whizz? Like you could put out the L.A. fires with it? Well for me, AFTER I would p*ss, my bladder felt that way. It was weird.

I’d get it treated and drink lots of water, don’t risk this getting worse.

Nothing good, you should keep it clean and also avoid tight clothes and don't eat sugary foods (because it feeds the fungus) maybe eat garlic or something 😳

It’s going to get bad if left untreated. Just drink cranberry juice 👍🙂
