Do you divulge EVERYTHING in your past to your therapist?

Or are there some things you don't bring up?

I hate therapists, my mother forced me to seeing one in the 80's, and I was forced to seeing one while fighting for disability recently. All my last one did was argue, claiming I was always wrong, the clinic admins refused to address my complaints against her as the was the ONLY licensed shrink in the pathetic middle of nowhere small iowa town I was living in at the time, there was another licensed therapist, but she was "only a social worker" She recommended me for disability, but as she was "only a social worker" social security rejected her recommendation, forcing me to see the other one 馃檮

@NativePortlander1970 I'm sorry about how she was :( My last one was like that, and I left within a couple months. She would try to counter anything I said, and even said that unless I love myself , can I try for love/have love. It was VERY disempowering. I think many are NOT like those therapists we had . My new one does not put me down, she only ever lifts me up. However, she does not say much. When she does, it is positive. But I really need more input. More ideas/tips. I do most of the talking and they mainly nod. I really need more than one line in a 45 min. session. But I do like her, so I'm giving it more time. I just can't divulge 'everything' yet, I do feel shame over a few things.
@Coralmist (((((HUGS))))) I am so very glad you got rid of her, but yes, your new one must engage with dialog more often, and I'd tell her that, they need to ask more queations and probe deeper.

@NativePortlander1970 Thanks so much... 馃崁 What I need to do (speak up to her) , is an issue I am in therapy for as well lol. Sucks. It is very hard for me to speak up. :(
@Coralmist (((((HUGS))))) You're so very welcome 馃鉂わ笍 Hopefully You will be able to let her know soon.

@NativePortlander1970 I think I will just ask her more direct questions after I explain issues. Often times she doesn't extend on an issue I have. And these are issues that are really affecting my life. Maybe I will need to prompt her, like, 'What do you think about that ?' or 'What should I do in these instances ?'
@Coralmist That's an excellent idea, engage her in dialog.
