My mum is in intensive care.

She's been in this state for a few days and it's not looking good. It's a lung infection and she has COPD. She's being kept alive by drugs and breathing machines in an induced coma. Reading between the lines if what the doctor says, it's not optimistic.

So sorry.

If it makes you feel any better, the induced coma is so she can tolerate the respirator, no one would really want to be awake during the time that you are on a ventilator. I was chairman of my hospital's ethics committee. We had a discussion once and the hospital's lawyer said something that I think is very germane, he said it sounds as if having your muscles paralyzed and dependent upon a ventilator, would be like being held over a cliff aware that you might drop thousands of feet.
