G.P's at my Surgery next to useless

I currently have three health conditions not being addressed.

Three different problems.
Spinal.
Neurological.
Possibly viral

Referrals to three different hospital departments at three different hospitals each 40+ miles from home.
All of whom have taken a total of 16 blood samples.
12 C:T scans.
9 MRI's
And consultations galore.
Some in person.
Some in clinics.
In recent times many via phone or video calls.

And not so much as an Aspirin dispensed throughout.

Yesterday evening I received a phone call from a duty Doctor at my Surgery apologising for the delay in getting the results of my tests.
all of which I had to do myself and return the results to the Surgery.
Including having to go to one drug company website and then using Google translate just to get some idea of how to take the test as the instruction on the packaging made no sense when read.

I was told during this phone call that until results were in and he could issue a defined antibiotic for the viral problem, he'd issue a generic one-off. Probably a jab that I could do at home just to relieve symptoms until he gets the results middle of next week.

Hoorah !
Finally something being done !

So this morning I go to collect what I thought would be painkillers and this jab only to discover (after having queued for 40 minutes) no jab. No painkillers....just something to settle my stomach; a heat pad....im assuming this is for the kidney area pain, and for some reason a box of sticking plasters. (Which im assuming is some sort of placebo for the neuralgia patches he said he'd issue)

Im done

All this following spinal surgery in November last year.
Personally I think the Surgeon botched the operation and the fall out is everything that's happened since.
That's why no department wants to take responsibility for further treatment unless or until i suddenly can't walk anymore.
Or if my kidneys start showing signs of falling.
Or if my headaches get so bad I start blacking out.

I had an MRI this spring to study my head, neck and back. It was awful. Too long.

I had a CT scan before the MRI, which was OK.

I had back-of-the-neck surgery to remove infected tissue. Then I got a skin graft cut from my leg to patch the huge hole in my neck.

While healing, they used a hyperbaric treatment, where they put you in a chamber, increase the pressure, and you breathe oxygen. It was awful in the mask and with all the ear popping. They called it a "dive".

I am not back to normal, and likely never will be. At least I did not die, and can walk again. Earlier this year I needed a walker.

@JoyfulSilence Yes MRI's are very claustrophobic.
Hell on earth if they don't give you earplugs as the noises go straight through you.

Hyperbaric chamber treatment is horribly oppressive i should think.
I wish you well in your continued recovery

@Picklebobble2

They gave me headphones playing music during the MRI. I asked for Mozart and tried to nap.

I am surviving. I am walking around a mall now. I felt a little vigor at first yet soon my legs felt weak. My neck and back are always stiff and tight.

My boyfriend has had similar experiences in dealing with a useless GP surgery. Appointments cancelled etc when he did have tests and heard nothing he rang and the receptionist terrified hom by saying they were there but he'd need to speak to the doctor urgently. Then she said hed have to wait as there were no appointments. There is a UCL consultant next door and he advised him to go private which he did. He saw a lovely doctor who assured him all was ok and he got the results and NHS appointments at the hospital. Things have been a lot better since then. I hope you can change surgeries or get some assistance.

Update
I received a text message yesterday from the Doctor via the surgery.

One test result in and viral infection meds (3 of them) issued.
Took one dose and began to feel better within hours !

Still no news on the other troubles but scared myself silly yesterday trying to cross busy roads in the city at work.
So have decided to slow right down and not rush or hurry for anyone until further notice.
....which is what I'm being advised anyway.

It's crap, I feel for you. The NHS has completely crumbled.

I've been waiting since January 2022 for a simple test to confirm my diagnosis.

It's a £300 cost to have it privately, I'm seriously thinking about selling something to pay for it but surely I've got to be near the top of the list sometime soon!?

In the U.S. that would happen with cheap medical insurance. Doesn’t Great Britain operate differently on coverage.
My Veterans Administration Hospital gets screwy at times.

@Pfuzylogic For best part of a century the idea is you arrange an appointment; get given a time to see a Doctor.

Doctor examines you.
Asks relevant questions.
And at the end of a ten minute consult gives you a prescription for a treatment that you then take to a Pharmacy for them to fill.
Takes about ten minutes.

On the prescription it asks if you are claiming any kind of assistance and if you are, you indicate which one (including low earnings)
And that's it !
The cost is paid by government but people contribute through taxation and national insurance.

If the Doctor thinks you need to see a Specialist the Doctor refers you via email and official letter and you just follow the instructions given.

But proper Doctors are retiring at a rate of knots quicker than qualified Doctors are replacing them.
So you're often seen by a Healthcare Professional.
Somebody with Nursling qualifications but limited capacity to prescribe.

Theory being if you can make that work the government is saving a fortune !

I personally have had three major issues following surgery.
I didn't have them before
So to my mind That's the link !

Not solving the issue just giving you meds to treat the post-op problems.

This is through the military?

I'm so sorry 😞
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@AlchemyFox not connected to the military

@Picklebobble2 oh. Hope things get better soon
Musicman · 61-69, M
I am so sorry to hear this. I am definitely praying for you 🙏🙏🙏
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Either this is through the VA or your insurance company is delaying. Insurance companies will delay treatment because dead patients don't generate claims. The VA is incompetent.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Crazywaterspring @Picklebobble2 is in the UK, this is the English NHS. No insurers or veteran's administration involved.

@Picklebobble2 It's difficult to comment on your situation without knowing where you live (England, Canada, the USA).

Thanks for the info. I don't know very much about the English system.
After covid.
I’m thinking unlicensed back ally drs are the safest bet.
Theyl actually treat you for cash
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Medicine women have cured cancer. Knew two men who went to them and they cured cancer
@cherokeepatti after the panic they showed for ivermectin…
I’d bet a small amount of cash it’s a key too
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
Since the beginning of this w I’ve seen a doctor 15 times that includes hospital
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
I dont know what to tell you to do...or even who you can call to get the ball rolling faster.

Is there any sort of patient advocate at your local hospital or in your area? Maybe this is the way to go...someone who can coordinate and get the information and get them on top of it? This is my only thought at the moment aside from calling each doctor and leaving a scorched earth type messages about reporting to medical boards for lack of treatment.

This is infuriating and i am sorry...
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@JaggedLittlePill About a month ago I requested a meeting with the Practice Manager.
This is the head of the Doctors Surgery.

I outlined my concerns and made it clear i wasn't complaining (there are stories everywhere that folk who submit official complaints suddenly find their medical records are no longer being kept at the surgery and front line staff denying they were ever patients at the practice they're complaining about !)
I merely wanted to know IF there was a plan, and IF they were ever going to let me in on it !

He gave me the whole
The system is under considerable strain at the moment,
what with covid; flu season; a high need anong medically reliant groups affected by budget cuts to services
baloney.
