Autism breakthrough: One protein's sweeping influence on development of autism revealed
Date:
December 15, 2016
Source:
University of Toronto
Summary:
A drop in one protein is enough to cause autism, according to the results of a new study. Scientists were able to trigger autistic-like behavior in mice that were engineered to have lower levels of the nSR100 protein, which had previously been found to be reduced in the brains of patients with ASD.

@therighttothink50 Indeed by not consuming meat, individuals do become more aware of subtle things.
Scientific researchers might call these sensitivities as part of the autistic spectrum,
I won't argue with it.

if everyone owned their own farm animals it'd be more humane sometimes, but many times even worse, because most people are terrible. I think at the very least that the industrialization has brought the life experience of all farm animals to the average, and many times average is better. Of course, there's the option to go vegetarian, but that's unrealistic....

@being I think that's a separate issue, and while there is a parallel to be drawn, I don't think it's justified. Animals are not of the same worth as human lives, and therefore should not be treated the same.

@MartinTheFirst Here's another division to my eyes.. As I see it, we are all one thing. Treating anything in any way, is treating ourselves.

@being in some senses we are, but not on a social level

It's times like this seeing that pic that I'm happy I've gone two decades without meat.

@basilfawlty89 it's a lot more recent for me. It's a couple of years I'm vegetarian. But it's been 10 years or so since I began battling with it within me. I was a *normal* people.. I was eating a lot of meat and enjoying it.
But slowly I began to see and see some more and understand what we're doing.
I've been trying and trying, failing and trying again. The same with smoking. These 10 years I've been quitting then loosing my quit.
I stopped both and I'm clear two years now. Not imagining it possible to go back.
About smoking, it really feels better. About eating animals, it's one thing less to burden my consciousness...
