Doctors are brutally honest

I went to see my doctor because lately I've been getting heartburn whenever I eat anything with tomato in it. Never had this problem before. As a cancer survivor, I go for regular checkups, have blood drawn frequently just to check to make sure things are still ok. So I figured he should know what the problem is fairly easily. And he did. He told me its acid reflux. When I asked him why I am getting this now and never got it before his answer was very blunt. He said it's because you're getting old and there is wear and tear on your stomach just like every other part of your body. Oh well, cant fight the aging process
I've had avos reflux everyday for most of my life.
(I screwed up my stomach flora with an eating disorder when I was young ).
It's only recently since I've been looking into food and nutrients and how out body uses them, ...and the problems that can happen, have I found out why I have acid reflux.

It's inflammation. As we get older, or if we do things like eat a processed diet ...our systems find it harder to heal and renew .

If it's only tomatoes, then you're lucky in a way - this inflammation is only starting.
As years went by, for me, it got worse ....I have a list an arms length of things that set me off.
In fact , if I don't watch my diet, eat too many bad foods, first coffee of the morning can do it .

There are things you can do to help your stomach regenerate it's lining ....and fix it's natural flora - microbiome, (which is all the good bacteria in it that helps protect our digestive tract):
Intermittent fasting gives your stomach a rest, (this is just not eating for extended periods like say 15 - 18 hours ).

Or sticking to anti inflammatory foods for a week or two, to help your system calm back down and heal. Maybe while taking probiotics as well.

Western diets have killed off something like 80 - 90% of the bacteria us humans are supposed to have in our gut. And that bacteria plays an integral role in bodily and brain function, health, healing and out immune system .

Inflammation of our gut leads to digestive issues, thinning of the gut wall, leaky gut syndrome, ulcers, gerd and poor nutient uptake and can trigger the diabetes gene to switch on.

After this, or having this for a long time - the inflammation spreads and creates inflammation in our bodies ...so then arthritis, heart problems, circulation problems....even brain problems.

Sorry to give you a saga ....and a downer. But I wish I had known all this YEARS ago before mine got so bad .

Yes ...we get older, yes our bodies don't heal, work and function as efficiently as they once did.

But....we can help it with better nutrition. Food can be used for healing ....even if you just stay away from antagonistic foods now and then to give your body time to heal .

@OogieBoogie I have also found that if I want to have something with tomato in it, if I take a Pepcid pill fifteen minutes before eating, it drastically reduces the heartburn
@chuck7882 Yes, there are many medications that help.
Just be careful of the side affects.

Just remember, when a body reacts badly to something , it's a warning sign.

I mean , if your skin rashed up everytime you touched apples, would you put cream on and keep touching apples ....or would you stop touching apples ?🤷

So sorry to hear it. I know how worrisome that is, as I have family members with serious stomach problems. Some have had GI cancer and some just have GERD or indigestion. Best of luck to you, and I hope it's just a food sensitivity or allergy type problem.

I'm getting similar responses to my spinal problem.
Well you're getting older you have to expect these kinds of problems...
Doesn't sound encouraging does it ?
