Someone finally listened

I was diagnosed as diabetic at the end of September and had my first consultation on Oct 4th and was started on medication. Ive had a couple of 'follow up' phone consultations that didnt happen .... and when i rang the surgery to chase em up i was told i must be mistaken as the appointments were not recorded on the system. I had them hand written along
with instuctions how to take my meds. I was told some info leaflets had been posted to me, but ive never received those.
A few days before xmas i got a reminder to book my 3 month review, but they didn't send the envelopes to do the blood test. I called at the doctors and the receptionist said he couldnt do anything without speaking to the diabetic team and nobody was in. So, i called last week and was told by a receptionist my bloodtests were not due yet.... it has to be at least 3 months, to which i replied my bloods were 1st done on 27th september, so it is past 3 months .. and....said 'you have sent me a reminder to make the appointnent already, but the bloods need taking before the review. She was insistant my bloods were done in 18th oct to which i replied id already been on meds 2 weeks by then. So...i got nowhere and once again was made to feel like im lying about the situation!

Well today i got an appointment with the nurse about the dreadful cough i have. When i got there, the nurse i saw is my asthma nurse. I mentioned to her id not been eating and was a bit worried my blood sugars would be haywire with the extra steroids and otc meds. She looked at my notes and remembered it was her that had ordered the intial blood tests back in sept and as she started asking how i was doing i started blubbing. I told her how id felt let down and very frustrated as id been questioned and 'corrected' about previous appointments.
She looked back through my notes and confirmed all i told her was clearly there on the systemn. She was shocked id been refused blood test because 'its not due yet' when it clearly is. Within 5 minutes, shed sorted a collegue to take my bloods and has promised she will call me on Thursday with the result and see how I am.
Less than 10 mins after leaving the surgery, i got an appointment through for my diabetes review on 20th jan.
The relief i feel for having someone finally listen to me is immense.......

That's quite tearful Rubi, I got choked up reading that, I'm so glad you have someone who believes you at last, it must be horrible being made out to be a liar. xx

@PissFun thank you. Its been horrid. I genuinely feel ive been earmarked as highly strung and difficult. But its been really upsetting when ive given them a fact and they've 'corrected' me.
'No Mrs R...your tests were done on 18th Oct, not in September'

'No..i deffo had them done 27th sept. I was told i was i was diabetic on 29th and had my first consultation and put in meds on 4th'

'No record of that here. You saw Dr B on 18th.'

'No i didnt. I was sat waiting for a call back from the nurse id seen in 4th and she didnt call me so i rang the surgery and was put through to Dr B after the receptionists tore me off a strip for getting 'stressy' on her and I asked to speak to the practice manager who got the dr to call me back!!
Nightmare. So stressful.

That sounds really frustrating! I’m type 1 diabetic for 47 years now and I can definitely attest to the fact that steroids drastically increase blood sugar. Doctors refuse to ever give them to me because my blood sugar has gone up to around 1000 when on steroids! I won’t touch them.

Diabetes management is a chore in itself, speaking as a Type 2. Your physician and medical team should be on your side and helpful, not make you jump through hoops. Sorry that you had issues, but I hope everything is resolved so that you can carry on in 2023.
