40-day fast. have you tried it? how did it go?

I haven't tried it, but I have a couple of friends who've done it many times. They say it's a good idea to talk to people who are very experienced with fasting and get advice on the best way to do it.
I believe the basic idea is to go into the fast slowly, starting by cutting out carbs and sugars, then proteins, and then going to soup.
When coming back into eating, reverse the process and slowly build up to healthy regular meals.
But I'm sure there's more to it than that.
Maybe it might be best to consult an expert nutritionist - or research reliable sites on line, ie, sites backed by legitimate scientific research. Try the Mayo Clinic online. Or Harvard Medical.

Check with your doctor if you have any medical condition like diabetes, kidney stones etc - because some conditions can make fasting dangerous.

Dr Michael Moseley says that humans as hunter gatherers sometimes went without food for several days in a row and that our systems are not only well adapted to cope but actually thrive better with intermittent moderate fasting. His 5-2 Diet and Fast 800 Diet are based on this principle (which all the back-up research)
Moseley says evidence shows no harm in eating nothing for up to four days, but do drink 2 to 2.5 litres of water per day. If the weather is very hot or humid, supplement with electrolytes. Lemon juice in the water to maintain Vit C intake is also a good idea.
He says it's best not to be driving, operating machinery, or working on the fourth day of a diet because on that day people start to feel spaced out and high.
He also advises to maintain at least half an hour of regular exercise (walking or more vigorous). This is because the body tends to shed muscle before it sheds fat. Exercise counteracts that and ensures that the body loses fat not muscle.

@hartfire I jumped in with two feet and landed flat on my face. My fast only lasted for three days! I didn't cut the carbs and sugars. I should have been more gradual.
@blindbob Maybe it will go better next time. Maybe try some research.
